Goldcar is one of the leading car rental companies in Spain and the largest dedicated to the tourist sector.

The company, with over 25 years’ experience, currently has 28 car rental branches located at major airports and tourist destinations in the Iberian Peninsula, Balearic and Canary Islands.

The company has a fleet of more than 20,000 vehicles, of which over 70% are renewed annually, making it one of the youngest rental fleets in Europe. With highly qualified staff, the company serves more than 1.5 million customers worldwide each year with the fastest vehicle collection and delivery service on the market.

History

Goldcar Rental, previously Europa Rent a Car, was founded in 1985 with the aim of creating a car rental company in Spain specialising in meeting the needs of the tourist market.

• 1985 Brothers Juan and Pedro Alcaraz begin their venture with the opening of the first car rental office in San Juan de Alicante, next to the Valencia motorway, with four Ford Fiestas and one Ford Escort.
• 1987 A second branch of the car rental company opens in Torrevieja (Alicante).
• 1988 On 24 August the company consolidates its commercial activity under company name Europa Rent-a-Car, S.L.
• 1989 A third branch of the rental car company opens in Benidorm (Alicante).
• 1994 The premises are modernised for car rental in Torrevieja (Alicante).
• 1995 Activity begins with a new car rental branch at Valencia Airport.
• 1997 In Benidorm (Alicante) the branches are moved to larger premises and the first branch opens for car rental at Alicante Airport.
• 1999 Car rental branches open in Denia (Alicante) and the company begins to expand rapidly. Creation of new departments, making it necessary to establish a head office in the town of San Juan.
• 2000 Car rental premises are purchased at Malaga Airport and a car rental branch opens in Aguilas (Murcia).
• 2001 The expansion process continues with the opening of a new car rental branch at Murcia Airport.
• 2002 Opening of car rental branches at Palma de Mallorca, Jerez and Almeria airports.
• 2006 Car rental branches open in Granada and Girona. This year also sees a transition to the name of Goldcar.
• 2007 Goldcar Europa’s new project for this year sees opening of new, modern, better equipped premises for the head office in San Juan.
• 2008 Opening of car rental branches in the Canary Islands: Las Palmas and Tenerife.
• 2009 Opening of car rental branches at Lanzarote Airport in the Canary Islands.
• 2010 25th anniversary celebration of the founding of Goldcar. Opening of car rental branches at Fuerteventura and Tenerife Norte Airports.
• 2011 Premiere of the new website developed with the most advanced booking system on the market. Opening of car rental branches at Barcelona, Ibiza, Menorca, Faro (Portugal) and Bilbao airports.
